Real Digital will launch its main fulfillment centre for the German market in Cheb
Panattoni, market leader in industrial real estate in Europe, has provided the German online retailer Real Digital with its main fulfillment centre. Despite measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the first construction in the new Panattoni Park Cheb South had only a minimal delay of a few days. Last year, the 27,000 m2 building was one of the largest new rental transactions in the Czech Republic. The project that came into being on the premises of the former Cheb engineering works aspires to a high rating in the latest standard of BREEAM certification.
“We were drawn to Cheb not only because of its strategic location near the German border and the fact that the area was ready with guaranteed timing, but also by a desire for sustainable development. Thanks to the revitalisation of the brownfield, no arable land or any area in the open landscape had to be taken over here. Now we can see that we have chosen the right partners. The developer coped even in the complicated circumstances caused by the pandemic and thanks to CBRE’s commercial representation and project management during the preparation and implementation phase, the fulfillment centre meets all our requirements,” says Terry Rogers, Real Digital’s CEO.
“I applaud our entire team for keeping to the schedule, even though the key phase of construction fell during the difficult period when we were fighting the covid-19 pandemic. Long-term excellent relationships with suppliers, support from the town and our extensive experience with such demanding projects as Amazon in Dobrovíz led to a successful outcome. Also, in the case of Real Digital it turned out that meeting all the client’s requirements is mutually beneficial, despite the demands on time. The client gets exactly what it needs,” says Pavel Sovička, Panattoni’s CEO for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
“Czech brownfield development is on the rise, and that is good news not only for investors, but also for the environment and the affected communities. I can confirm that things have moved on significantly in this respect – clients are not afraid of revitalization, on the contrary, they consider it a plus. The combination of an experienced developer and an enlightened client has resulted in a premium industrial project that excels in its quality and environmental approach,” adds Marek Bíza, Associate Director, Building Consultancy & Project Management at CBRE.
“As mayor of the town, I welcome the revitalization of the neglected industrial complex in which the new hall has been built. I am also pleased that it meets very strict environmental conditions. I am convinced that Real Digital, which operates one of the largest online stores, will bring new jobs to the region at this difficult time and contribute to its economic stabilization,” said the mayor of Cheb, Antonín Jalovec.
Nowadays, the Cheb region is one of the most attractive locations for the development of modern industry in Central Europe. The specialty of Panattoni Park Cheb South is its connection to the rich tradition of the former engineering works. Thanks to the new zone, industry is returning to places where it historically operated for a long time. Its predecessor Panattoni Park Cheb brought several important investors to the town and created over a thousand new jobs.
