- Panattoni completes building extension for mountaineering specialists Bergfreunde
- Handover to the new tenants took place according to schedule on 31 March 2020 at the site in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen
- The extension of the existing building comprises a total of around 11,000m2 of space
Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics facilities in Europe, handed over the extension of the logistics centre at the site in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen to the online retailer and mountaineering specialists Bergfreunde on 31 March 2020, according to schedule. Strict hygiene and safety standards were in place at the handover due to the current coronavirus crisis.
Bergfreunde had commissioned Panattoni to carry out the extension of the existing property, which had also been developed by Panattoni. The extension increased the building’s approximately 10,000m2 by a further 11,331m2, of which 9,927m2 are intended for logistics space and 1,404m2 for office space and social areas. Furthermore, 70 car parking spaces and 3 lorry parking spaces were created. As a sign of a sustainable method of construction, the 'Gold Standard' of the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) was achieved during development.
The new space will be where Bergfreunde processes incoming goods and returns, as well as accommodating the complaint management service. The online retailer’s strong level of orders and the positive experience during its previous collaboration with Panattoni were the decisive factors for the new order.
“We are especially delighted with the completion of the extension. The new space is crucial for our development and future success in 2020 and beyond. And we’re all the more pleased that the difficult circumstances of the past few weeks were not able to jeopardise the project being completed successfully,” states Ronny Höhn, Managing Director of Bergfreunde.
In spite of the volatile situation in the first quarter of 2020 and the difficult conditions in developing the project due to the coronavirus crisis, Panattoni nonetheless managed to deliver the new space on time. “The coronavirus pandemic presented us with huge challenges towards the end of the project in particular, during its development in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen. This meant we had to come up with solutions that were both creative and fast,” explains Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner of Panattoni. “The punctual handover of the project to Bergfreunde sends out the signal that our partners and customers can rely on us even in exceptional and adverse circumstances. We have been and will continue to be there for our customers.”
