World’s leading tire manufacturer Goodyear heading to modern distribution centre in Czechia

Well-known American tire manufacturer Goodyear, a company with 125 years of tradition, will be the first tenant at Panattoni Park Cheb East, a new industrial complex. This strategic location will support the company in streamlining its logistics and supply chain and reducing its carbon footprint. Panattoni has commenced construction of the Cheb facility.

“I am very happy about constructing Goodyear’s state-of-the-art distribution centre, which will optimize its Central European tire distribution network. Goodyear recently unveiled its sustainability vision for tires in the future. They won’t be left stranded with this facility, which will include heat pumps, a photovoltaic power plant, and charging stations for electric vehicles. Our target level for BREEAM New Construction certification is ‘Outstanding’,” says Pavel Sovička, Panattoni’s Managing Director for the Czechia and Slovakia.

Goodyear’s operations at Panattoni Park Cheb East will streamline tire distribution to customers in Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and smooth tire delivery to Nordic countries. In an initiative to help achieve optimal sustainability, Goodyear is reducing the distances between its distribution centres and dealer networks, redefining processes, improving end customer delivery times, and reducing its overall carbon footprint.

Built to the globally recognised “BREEAM New Construction” sustainability rating of ‘Outstanding’, the hall will have 80,000 m² capacity, and Goodyear will lease 60,000 m². Every new building in the Panattoni portfolio incorporates an energy-saving design for electricity, heat and water consumption, and this hall is no exception. Its roof will be prepared for photovoltaic panel installation, and heat pumps will deliver efficient heating. Grey water tanks will be installed underground, and the outdoor parking lot will feature electric vehicle charging stations.

Cheb boasts excellent transport links to the rest of Europe—the E42 motorway linking Prague to Nuremberg is located nearby and provides a quick connection to Germany. The l/21 road provides access to the D5 motorway from Prague to Rozvadov, and access to the railway corridor from Prague to Nuremberg is also an advantage. The container terminal in Hof is just 54 kilometres from the site and runs direct trains to North Sea and Baltic Sea ports. Karlovy Vary international airport is also only 45 minutes away, and rail connections give access to the German/Czech border areas.

This relocation of Goodyear’s supply chain activities to the Panattoni facility in Cheb is an important strategic step in the company’s Better Future Framework to establish responsible operations and improve its go-to-market logistics in the EMEA region.
